Winter is in full swing, and what better way to embrace the season than by planning a ski trip? But before you hit the slopes, a few key questions need answering: Where should you go? How much will it cost? What about ski passes, accommodations, and travel options? Planning ahead ensures a smooth, stress-free experience, so let’s dive into the details!

Choosing Your Destination

One of the best ways to enjoy winter sports is by selecting a destination that guarantees great slopes, breathtaking scenery, and excellent infrastructure. For this season, we choose Stubai Valley in Austria, home to the famous Top of Tyrol—a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint at over 3,000 meters altitude.

If you’re looking for a traditional yet modern ski destination, Stubai offers it all. With its pristine slopes, charming alpine villages, and top-tier facilities, it’s a fantastic choice for beginners and pros alike.

We always come back to Stubai, it is an absolutely unique place. To be here feels like letting go of everything to simply enjoy this spectacular piece of heaven in the Austrian Alps.

Travel Options: Car or Plane?

Your mode of transport depends on convenience, budget, and personal preference. Driving gives you the flexibility to explore, stop for coffee, or even extend your trip with overnight stays in picturesque Austrian villages. If you’re taking a car, remember:

  • You’ll need vignettes (road toll stickers) for Hungary and Austria, valid for at least a week (aprox.12 Euros for Hungary and 10 Euros for Austria)
  • Calculate fuel costs and decide if driving is the best option compared to flying
  • As an example from Cluj-Napoca (Romania) to Neustift (Stubai Valley) our car needed 1 fuel tank. However this will vary from car to car.

Why Stubai Valley?

Having visited this destination before, I can confidently say that Stubai Valley is a gem. Located just 15 km from Innsbruck, the valley stretches 35 km into the heart of the Stubai Alps, boasting 80 glaciers and 109 peaks above 3,000 meters. The atmosphere is serene, surrounded by charming villages like Neustift, Fulpmes, Telfes, Mieders, and Schoenberg.

Stubai’s high-altitude terrain and top-notch infrastructure make it a perfect winter getaway for both skiers and non-skiers. You’ll breathe fresh mountain air, soak in spectacular glacier views, and enjoy an unforgettable adventure.

Where to Stay?

For the best experience, book accommodations between the main villages in the valley. Opt for Neustift, just 15 minutes from the glacier, with easy access to a ski bus that runs regularly. This way, you can relax and enjoy a mulled wine at an après-ski bar without worrying about driving back.
